When photography and art click, a new genre of painting is born. Ashok Roy explains this intriguing creative expression
Pushing the boundaries and experimenting have always excited artist Ashok Roy. Add a daub of tangential thinking and dollops of creative talent and you have a new art form called 'Photo-Genius Painting'.
What was that again? "I wanted to experiment with art and create something new. So I started painting over photographs that I click," smiles Roy, who loves taking pictures of random things to work his magic with. "Vague things like a half-eaten idli or a heavy downpour catch my attention and inspire me," explains the sexagenarian, who uses oil paint to create images and textures over his prints. And, yes, this odd blend of camera and brush strokes is truly amazing.
